Backhill Lane

Reopening the disused Backhill Tunnel to cyclists and walkers. A former railway tunnel will become a vital link for people who live and work near the Milton Park and Milton Interchange enterprise zones.

The disused Backhill Tunnel has been closed to the public for many years.  In 2017 we’ll start work to reopen it to cyclists and pedestrians.  The project will create a new link between Milton Park and the north side of the A4130.

The work involves laying a surface that’s suitable for cyclists and pedestrians, installing lighting and CCTV, whilst improving the fencing to keep people off the railway line.  When the project is complete, we’ll have a new north-south connection between Milton Park and the A4130. The tunnel will make it easier for people to walk or cycle between the Milton Park and Milton Interchange enterprise zones and the residential areas of North West Valley Park and Valley Park.
